New Clacton Labour Party Team ‘to serve all’

The Labour Party in Clacton has elected an entirely new Executive Committee to run its local branch and help its growing membership support the local community.

At a packed meeting on Wednesday night, local party members elected a full team of sixteen, according to new chair George Taylor. Most of the group are brand new to local politics, but there are also several experienced hands, including some with previous expertise campaigning in London and the East of England.

“The Committee is a brilliant group of Clacton residents who live all over the constituency”, Mr. Taylor said.  “They include Midwives, Teachers, Managers, Self Employed, young Students, Tradespeople & Retirees. There is not one member of the committee who is self-serving, their raison d’être is to represent and serve all, not just a few. All are passionate about giving the people of Clacton a voice and an opportunity to make their lives better.”

The announcement comes after all but one of the former executive resigned back in February. Mr. Taylor said the fact that the huge membership of over 360 had elected a completely new committee showed the party was through with navel-gazing and has dedicated itself to serving the people of Tendring.

“There are many electors who feel they have no political home; we aim to offer them a home, and the chance for them to change politics in Clacton for the better. We can only do this with support from the people, so now is the chance for the silent to speak out - we are listening.”

Mr. Taylor invited local people to contact the party through their Facebook page and their website at clactonlabour.com. He also confirmed that Labour will field a full slate of candidates for the May County Council elections and for the St James Ward by election on Tendring District Council. Membership of the party has trebled since the 2015 General Election.

The meeting on Wednesday night also held a minute’s silence for the victims of the Westminster tragedy.

The Labour Party in Clacton has been growing steadily since the General Election in 2015 and now has over 360 members in the constituency area. This rapid influx of new members has revitalized the local party and members are taking part in many local activities including campaigning to save the Minor Injuries Unit and against the takeover of 0-19 services by Virgin Care.
