Britain's largest trade union, UNITE, have established a Community section which enables people who are not in employment to join and become involved in the trade union movement.
People who are unemployed, disabled, full time carers, retired, students, voluntary workers etc. can now join and have access to all the benefits that union membership offers - like free 24-hour legal helpline, debt counselling, shopping discount schemes at major high street retailers to name but a few. The cost of Community membership is just 50p per week.
UNITE Community members can also take up and become involved in campaigns on issues which affect ordinary people and their communities and help to fight back against the injustices which are being inflicted on those who have been marginalised by society.
UNITE are now seeking to establish a Community Branch in north east Essex covering Clacton, Harwich and surrounding areas.
A meeting has been arranged on
Thursday 7th September 7:30pm
The Westcliff Theatre,
Tower Road, Clacton, Essex, CO15 1LE.
UNITE officer David Condliffe will be present with literature to hand out and to explain the role of the Community section answering any questions people may have. The meeting will also discuss the potential for establishing a Community Branch in this area. Refreshments will be available on the night.
If you are interested please come along and find out what UNITE can do for you and what you can do for UNITE. If you can't make the meeting but would like to be kept informed of future meetings, activities and developments please contact Vic Graves.
